Flux Shanty Hologram

Postcard From Shanty Town
at Flux Factory until October 30, 2008

In response to the looming eviction Ian Montgomery began constructing Shanty Town on the roof of Flux Factory. The idea was to make functioning shelters from collected materials, exploring the aesthetics of survival in New York. When the fire department ordered its dismantling Shanty Town consisted of two and a half shanties, a saloon and many dreams.

Martina Mrongovius’ postcard series are holograms that capture an essence of daydream with the dynamics of memory. Each piece is designed as a message. Postcard from Shanty Town is a digital-analogue montage made from photographs that have been mapped into the holographic image. Within the holographic space there are nine chapters, seen as you move vertically, each documenting the people, structures and their relationships. The dynamics of the hologram postcard allow you to explore this place that only exists in memories and splinters.

The hologram can be seen at Flux Factory events including Flux Thursday that happens each week ~9pm (bring art and things to share)

This hologram was donated to the 2008 Flux Factory Benefit Action
